Strategic Objects (2022)

site-specific installation, sound, video, 5’52’’

The installation works as a temporary anti-monument, creating space for the stories of refugee children whose voices are often unheard. Shumska leads workshops and video interviews, using participation as a way to work through trauma. She turns the institutional space of art into a place of regeneration, where imagining the future helps process wartime experience. By bringing the children’s voices into the public realm, she treats memory as something created together.

The work includes video and audio recordings of children from Ukraine and Poland. Participants: Danylo, Nastia, Ignacy, Ania, Malwina, Liova, Agata, Bohdana, Gosia, Ewa, Mira, Taja, Yulia, Dima, Sonia.

Created in cooperation with PGS Sopot, CSW ŁAŹNIA and the Kolonia Teraz Artists Foundation.

Special thanks to Mikolaj Robert Jurkowski.
